Not Abandoning Wireline After All?

May 30, 2012

In my last blog post, I discussed Verizon’s HomeFusion LTE-based fixed broadband offering.  I questioned the article in Telecompetitor suggesting the rollout meant that Verizon was abandoning the wireline business in favor of wireless. I concluded that this offer would likely only appeal to “… customers who do not have any Broadband Internet service, or who only have Satellite Broadband Internet service…”.

Interestingly I came across another article today in the Telecompetitor discussing Bend Broadband, a small regional cable company that has just launched a similar LTE-based fixed broadband service. This article quoted the Director of Marketing for Bend Broadband, who explained that they were “picking up people on the periphery”. The typical customer did not have any alternative other than dial-up, satellite, of marginal DSL service.

It’s rather satisfying to have your analysis confirmed so quickly.
